Garden collared dove or bronze dove (lat. Streptopelia decaocto) is a bird from the pigeon family. Since 1936, when it also penetrated into Slovakia, it already nests and winters in the entire territory, with the exception of mountainous areas above 900 m above sea level. m. and continuous forest stands. In our country, the garden dove together with the wood pigeon, the wood pigeon and the plow pigeon form a suborder of pigeons (Columbae). They are medium-sized birds and fly very well. They have soft molars (the basal part of the upper jaw above the nostrils) and a large bump, thickened on the sides, glandular. His exclusion, the so-called in the first week, they feed their young, of which there are no more than two, with tuber or pigeon milk. Later, they are given solid food softened in the parents' clod. Pigeons are colored grey-blue, slightly smaller doves are brownish. The garden turtledove, whose original homeland was North Africa, western Asia to India, appeared in Europe as a nester only after 1900. The garden turtledove nests in 87.4% of the mapping squares. In winter, turtle doves often gather in large flocks (up to 400 individuals) at suitable food sources. Wintering was proven in 81.4% of the mapping squares. The garden buzzard lives in human settlements and on their edges, in gardens, orchards, parks, cemeteries and feeds in backyards with poultry and pigeons, in the courtyards of agricultural enterprises, near feed mixers, mills, stacks, etc. In search of food, it also flies to the fields, to meshes and ropes of ripening crops, to stubble, etc. He collects the ripening grain especially where it is laid down. He likes peas, corn, hemp, sunflower, etc. It collects the sown seeds not only in the fields but also in the gardens and, in addition, it can be harmful by transmitting some diseases to the poultry. He does not stay in the woods.
